Mattinata ed oltre Mattinata and More
Gargano is a special territory, where art, culture, history and nature are magically intertwined and gave birth to a unique mixture of colours and landscapes.
Mattinata has one of the most beautiful beaches of the entire Gargano: kilometres of small and smooth shingles, continuously polished by our crystal clear sea. Jumping on one of the tourist boats, the visitor can enjoy the unforgettable scene of the many sea caves, small isolated beaches, only reachable by boat; the show goes on with the worldwide famous "Faraglioni di Baia delle Zagare", the nice Vignanotica and Mattinatella beaches, and many other places to visit in the surroundings of Mattinata. |
» Oltre Mattinata...
» Mattinata and much more...
A few kilometres away, you can find Monte Sant' Angelo, one of the most beautiful and unspoiled medieval towns of Apulia, full of faith and devotion for Saint Michael Archangel. An ancient sanctuary has been dedicated to the Saint and attracts every year lots of pilgrims. Moving a couple of km from Monte Sant'Angelo, another religious jewel has been preserved across the centuries: the Abbey of Pulsano, entitled to Saint Mary, was built in 1100 a.d. by San Giovanni da Matera. The Abbey is a milestone in the "Via Sacra Longobardorum" (the sacred pilgrimage road), and it stands on top of the mountains of Gargano, with a breathtaking vista of the plain below and the sea. Refreshed some years ago, it is full of bizantine icons and other pieces of medieval art; another important place to visit is San Giovanni Rotondo, the town whose name has been bound for ever to San Pio da Pietralcina. The things he did for the city of San Giovanni Rotondo (notably the big hospital Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza) are one of the biggest miracles he did, tangible also to those who don't believe. Shifting to nature, in some periods of the year, you can admire the wonderful "Orchidee selvatiche del Gargano" (Wild Orchids of Gargano). Mattinata (and the whole Gargano) is full of those special and unique flowers (it has almost 64% of all species of orchids of Europe. Last, but not least, from the harbor of Manfredonia you can reach Vieste, Termoli and especially Isole Tremiti, two small islands that represent a treasure for the whole National Park of Gargano, a place full of natural, historical and artistic jewels.
